2022-23 NBA City Jerseys, Uniform Revisions

The 2022-23 NBA season is a ways off, but we can start prepping by ogling some new threads. City Edition jerseys are changed annually since 2016.

Some teams have used the same design for years, whereas others keep changing. Utah Jazz does both. At least one club (Washington Wizards) collaborated with MLB.

In addition to the much-touted City Edition designs, certain clubs, like the San Antonio Spurs, are going to throw it back for the upcoming season. Enter the Classic Edition jerseys, which are a nod to the beginnings of the company’s history as a brand. Take a look at this rundown of the most recent uniform changes as they are announced by the various clubs.

35 years in the 305

The year 1988 marked the beginning of the Miami Heat’s NBA career. Now, 35 years and three NBA championships later, the Heat are bringing back the clothes they wore when they first won the league.

Starting in San Diego and ending in Houston

As a way to celebrate the fact that they have been in existence for 55 years, the Houston Rockets have decided to don the green, gold, and white jerseys that they wore when they were the San Diego Rockets.

The team made its very first choice in the draft, and it was a future icon, Pat Riley. The club played its games in Southern California up until 1971 when they moved to Houston.

Symbols of the sun, the stars, and the stripes

With the restoration of the purple sunburst jerseys, the Phoenix Suns took a step back into the Charles Barkley era of their franchise.

The Brooklyn Nets are also returning to their more traditional uniforms. When they played in New Jersey, there was one player from another state on the team.

Vintage-look Lakers

As part of the festivities commemorating their 75th season, the Los Angeles Lakers are going back to their beginnings in Minneapolis. Throwback versions of the Minnesota Timberwolves jerseys from the 1948–1958 era were worn during the 2001–2002 and 2017–18 seasons.

The powder blue color will be making a comeback over the following season.

Hello once again, Run TMC

Although Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin were only on the Golden State Warriors together for a total of two seasons, they gained the moniker “Run TMC” for their performance in the 1990–1991 season, during which they led the league in scoring as a trio.

Now, the outfit that was worn during their time on the team is getting ready to make a comeback, and it even has Stephen Curry’s blessing.

The statement made: The Spurs of San Antonio

With the unveiling of their Statement Edition combo, the San Antonio Spurs debuted their sixth jersey for the 2022-2023 season.

A brand new wordmark reading “SATX” is used on the jersey, while the shorts have an outline of the state of Texas that incorporates the Spurs’ insignia. The sides of the uniform have contemporary motifs that were modeled from the classic serapes and saddle blankets used in Mexico.

According to Becky Kimbro, Vice President of Brand Engagement for Spurs Sports & Entertainment, “Our new Statement Edition uniform symbolizes the progression of our team’s history while honoring supporters throughout the whole area.”

“Our new uniform is a celebration of fans across the entire region,” “Through the complex design of the serape, we are integrating our 50-year past with our thriving culture, which we celebrate both on and off the court.”

Conclusion

New ’90s uniforms. The Jazz change and revert. Utah will wear black, yellow, and white next season. Two purple jerseys won’t be used until 2023-24.

The Jazz teased their 2022-23 purple mountain uniforms in a video. Utah also promised a new purple mountain uniform for the next year and a vintage jersey similar to the original Jazz jersey when the club relocated from New Orleans. The Jazz is releasing a lot of ensembles.
