India’s T20 World Cup Squad Has Been Updated To Include Bumrah and Harshal

The October team that will be traveling to Australia includes Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Hooda, and Axar Patel. India’s T20 World Cup squad will be at full strength with the returns of fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.

Even though Arshdeep Singh made his India debut in July 2022, he was selected for the starting lineup ahead of veterans like Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Shami, who were relegated to the bench.

India has spent a lot of money on super experts in recent months. After his impressive performance as an IPL death bowler, Arshdeep certainly qualifies for this group.

In fact, only Bumrah had a greater economy rate than the 23-year-old left-arm fast last season, with at least 40 balls bowled between overs 17 and 20. And by just a hair’s breadth: 7.38 to 7.58.

Excitement In The Indian Team for T20 World Cup

The top four batters—Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav—were all hand-picked by the team’s management. India then went to their all-rounders, with Deepak Hooda’s ability to bowl some off-spin putting him ahead of other hopefuls like Shreyas Iyer, who ended up on the bench.

Similarly to the others, Hooda is a bolter in the squad. In 2022, after a breakthrough season with the Lucknow Super Giants, during which he scored 451 runs at a strike rate of 136.66, he made his debut for India. In international cricket, he has increased his strike rate to 155.85 despite having a lower sample size (9 innings compared to 14 in the past IPL).

The injury to Ravindra Jadeja’s knee may have also made India’s need for Hooda’s services more pressing. Although Axar Patel is now the team’s primary left-arm spinner, his inclusion in India’s starting XI is far from certain.

Hooda’s batting talent was favored by the coaching staff over Axar’s during the Asia Cup, while Jadeja was injured. Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik has elevated his game to a new level as a finisher, compelling the selectors to make his “dream come true.”

His death-overs strike rate was 220 in the IPL 2022 when he first started advocating for himself. Only Jos Buttler (236.53) performed better than the other batsmen who faced at least 50 balls between overs 17 and 20.

Karthik has shown similar abilities in India, particularly against West Indies in July when he came in at 127 for 5 and carried the total to 190 for 6. The 37-year-old has not played a T20I between February 2019 and June 2022. He may be the lone survivor from the 2007 tournament.

Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin will spearhead India’s spin assault. Ravi Bishnoi’s a reserve. India’s first T20 World Cup encounter is on October 23, therefore the team may make changes till then.

T20Is Australia vs South Africa Will Be Played At Shami’s Home Stadium

Even while most of India’s starters have strong track records in recent matches, one of their bench players looks to have been selected solely on name recognition (and a solid one at that).

Since the completion of the white-ball series against England in mid-July, Shami has been out of action. However, he has been called up for the home Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against Australia and South Africa beginning on September 20. And he has also been put on standby for the Twenty20 World Cup.

During the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2022, Shami was an integral part of the Gujarat Titans’ championship run, with 20 wickets in 16 games. Only Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Umran Malik (22), an Indian fast bowler, got more wickets than that.

The T20I team includes all-rounder Hardik Pandya and seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But they have been benched for the next series against South Africa.

Similarly, Arshdeep was benched for the T20Is against Australia but selected for India’s last T20I series before the T20 World Cup, which will be played in South Africa. Chahar has been selected to play in both bilateral series.

“Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be reporting to the NCA for conditioning-related training during the home series against Australia and South Africa,” said a BCCI media statement.
